There is something special about decorating your Christmas tree with ornaments you have made yourself. They feel more personal than store-bought decorations, and you can customize every detail to match your home, your Christmas colors, and your decorating style. Air dry clay Christmas ornaments are one of my favorite DIY Christmas craft ideas because you…
Some of my favorite air-dry clay projects aren’t necessarily the prettiest ones. They’re the little things I can actually use around the house, like a dish that keeps my rings from disappearing, a small pot for hair ties, or a tray near the front door where my keys finally have a place to go. When…
There is something about a delicate lace pattern that makes even the simplest handmade piece look special. I love how an ordinary piece of air-dry clay can become a decorative bowl with the kind of fine detail you would expect to find on something from a little vintage home decor shop. That is what makes…
The first time I tried pressing a real leaf into clay, I was making a small dish, and I remember being surprised by how much detail the clay picked up. Every vein, every tiny ridge, all of it, from a leaf I’d grabbed off the sidewalk on my way home. That detail is exactly why…
I love, love, LOVE a tiny handmade house, and an air dry clay mushroom house is one of those projects that looks far more complicated than it actually is. With its rounded mushroom cap, little arched door, and tiny windows, it has that whimsical fairy-cottage look that makes you want to create an entire miniature…
I have a drawer full of photos that were printed with every intention of being displayed and then never were. Frames felt like too much commitment, and sticking them to the wall felt like too little. What finally got them out of the drawer was something much simpler: a small, heavy clay block with a…
The first time I made an air dry clay jewelry tree, I was mostly trying to solve a very ordinary problem: I was tired of finding my earrings and necklaces in little piles around my bedroom. My rings had a dish. My earrings had a small box. But necklaces were another story entirely. They ended…
The first time I tried a napkin transfer on air dry clay, I ruined two napkins before I even got to the clay, pulling the layers apart too roughly, printing side shredding before it ever touched the bowl. Once I slowed down and actually understood what the technique needs, it turned out to be one…
My bathroom counter used to be a mix of plastic bottles and whatever tray I’d grabbed on a Target run, functional, but not exactly something I enjoyed looking at every morning. A handful of small clay pieces changed that more than I expected, a soap dish here, a little ring tray there, and suddenly the…
I still remember standing in the craft store aisle the first time I decided to try clay, staring at two nearly identical-looking packages and having absolutely no idea which one I actually needed. One said air dry, the other said oven bake, and nothing on either package explained what that actually meant for someone who’d…
